Ministry of Finance and Revenue said that the inflation rate of Myanmar as calculated by organizations outside the country often differs from official government figures because calculation methods are different.
For example, while Central Statistics show a 10pc inflation rate for 2005, calculations by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) put the figure at 53 percent.
“However, our calculations are based on the hard evidence of the consumer price index within the country,” said a senior official from Ministry of Finance and Revenue.
